Worth knowing for those responsible for loss prevention and auditing
The Digitech safe lock offers three different methods for reading out the lock events (audit). Each variant has its advantages and disadvantages and requires a valid manager code. Methods 2 and 3 also require special accessories such as a USB interface and a connection cable.
Here is an overview of the 3 methods:
Method 1
1. showing the last events on the display
The easiest and quickest way to get an overview of the last events is to show the last openings directly on the lock display.
Procedure:
- select the “Recording [7]” function and enter the valid manager code.
- confirm the selection “Scroll Events” with the [OK] button.
- the display shows the last event – such as the locking of the safe (indicated by the padlock symbol).
You can scroll through past events using the [OK] button. For example, you can see here that operator no. 02 has opened the safe. The length of time the safe was open is also displayed.
Advantages:
- No additional hardware required.
- Quick view directly at the lock.
Disadvantages:
- Only opening processes are displayed, no other events.
- Unsuitable for in-depth evaluation.
This method is particularly suitable for a quick on-site check.
Method 2
2. download of up to 1000 events to a Dallas key
A Dallas key can be used for extended storage. Here, the last 1000 events – not just openings, but all activities – are transferred to the key and can be evaluated later on a PC.
Procedure:
- select the “Recording [7]” function and enter the manager code.
- hold the Dallas key to the Dallas read contact of the input unit to download the event.
- then download the stored data from the key to a computer using the free PC software.
Advantages:
- Dallas key as a mobile cache that can also be passed on (e.g. by post).
- Takes into account all stored events, not just openings.
Disadvantages:
- Memory is limited to 1000 events.
- Somewhat cumbersome compared to more modern solutions.
This method can be practical if the person reading out the data is not the same as the person carrying out the evaluation.
Method 3
3. direct download of all events to a PC
The most comprehensive method is to download all events (up to 8000) directly to a laptop or PC. This variant requires the USB interface and a connection cable.
Procedure:
- connect the USB interface with the connection cable to the socket on the side of the input unit.
- select the “Recording [7]” function and enter the manager code.
- confirm the “PC connection” selection with the [->] button.
- start the download process via the PC software.
Advantages:
- Full access to all stored events.
- Ideal for detailed evaluation and archiving.
- Efficient solution with simple handling.
Disadvantages:
- Requires accessories (USB interface and connection cable).
This method is by far the best choice for users who regularly carry out audits or need to evaluate extensive logs.
Conclusion
The choice of the right method for reading out the events on the safe lock depends on your application:
- For a quick overview, the indication on the display is sufficient.
- If you want to transport or pass on data, use the Dallas key.
- For a complete evaluation and maximum transparency, the direct download to the PC is the ideal solution.
The appropriate PC software for evaluation is available free of charge and is an indispensable tool, especially for the third method.
These methods can also be found in the respective operating instructions for DigiTech and MiniTech.
